Leicester Square Kitchen

Central to Leicester square, there is a restaurant that serves Mexican and Peruvian tapas. Along with the main restaurant and lounge bar, it reflects a chic and sophisticated vibe with a wide menu and not a fajita or an enchilada insight.

Given that this was our first time, we asked the waiter for advice. He recommended that we order five or six options. There were cocktails and wine a plenty, I settled for a Mango & Guanábana Pisco Sour - the liquor was strong and the water, served bottled. Our waiter, a young man from Sweden who came to England to pursue his acting dreams - left us with a warning of the spice levels. I'd seen chilli as an ingredient and veered away from the habanero dishes.

We ordered lamb cutlets, tiger prawns, chicken skewers, chicken in parmesan and panko breadcrumbs and sea bass ceviche. All were presented well and had the hint of spice that was tolerable to me. The prawns came battered with a side of chilli mayonnaise and the lamb was served on a hot lava stone, medium rare. We were advised to let it continue cooking as we both preferred well done.

Finally came our selected rice pudding with mango and coriander and a sweet caramelised tortilla and the mojito- infused mint ice cream and tropical fruit salad - (dragon fruit,) Served with Nasturtium (edible flowers).  Most who know me, know I rarely order fruit as a pudding but the meal was so well flavoured I needed something light and fresh. Along with a hot chocolate. This was an essential request, especially as South America is the home of chocolate!

Overall, this was an exquisite find with enough options for a follow up visit. Prices were medium with more expensive choices and an service charge is included.
